No recount for petition on Casper smoking ban
Casper officials say they will not recount signatures collected in support of a referendum on the city's weakened smoking ban.
V.H. McDonald, Casper's administrative services director, told the Casper Star-Tribune (http://bit.ly/13PmiaJ ) on Friday that his office reviewed an appeal submitted by the group Keep Casper Smoke Free.
McDonald says the city is confident in its initial signature count.Galaxy cigarettes.
Kim Holloway, co-founder of the group, formally challenged the dismissal of 98 signatures Tuesday. With the dismissal, the group fell short of the needed 2,454 valid signatures.
The group opposed the Casper City Council's recent revisions to a city-wide ban. In June, councilmembers lifted the ban for certain businesses, including bars not associated with restaurants.
Bar owners have complained about losing business to nearby towns where smoking is permitted.
